Where kids learn to turn obstacles into opportunities
Kids Camp for Families with Substance Use Disorders
Welcome to our Kids Camp for Families! This supportive and educational retreat is designed especially for children from families dealing with substance use disorders. Our camp offers a safe and fun environment where kids can learn to understand and manage their feelings, develop healthy coping skills, and grasp the realities of addiction.
Day 1 is all about getting kids comfortable talking about addiction and feelings through hands-on activities. We help them identify and express their emotions in healthy ways, connecting their experiences to the challenges faced by those struggling with addiction. With interactive discussions and activities like the "Bag of Rocks," kids learn about tolerance and the increasing pain associated with substance use, gaining a deeper understanding of addiction as a disease, not a choice.
Day 2 builds on what we learned on Day 1 and introduces the "7 Cs" – a way for kids to understand they didn't cause, can't control, and can't cure addiction. Instead, they learn what they can do: take care of themselves, communicate their feelings, make healthy choices, and celebrate their uniqueness. Activities help them explore their feelings and understand their role in family dynamics, empowering them to make positive decisions.
Day 3 focuses on family communication, giving kids and parents a structured way to express their feelings and listen to each other. We end the day with a fun graduation ceremony, marking the start of a family recovery journey where open communication and mutual support are key.Safe and Supportive Environment: The camp provides a safe space for children to discuss their feelings and experiences related to substance abuse, ensuring they feel heard and understood without judgment.
