The school year is ending: A no-brainer way to keep your teen involved in the community during the summer

This school year has been a lot. Like a lot, a lot.

We’ve navigated quarantines, defined what school during a pandemic looks like, and managed new school schedules.

To say you’ve been nimble and flexible and a super-parent is an understatement.

So with the school year coming to an end and the pandemic still alive (and in some cases making countries go back into quarantine), what options does your teen have for enjoying their summer somewhat normally?

The summer is a great time to enroll your teens in classes that aren’t included in their normal curriculum. It is a time to let them experiment with new subjects, explore their passions, and connect with others, safely.

Truth Tribe groups are tailored to offer social, emotional and experiential skills that your teen is likely not receiving in their academics. While subjects like math, science, English, and social studies in school, there is one critical tool that Truth Tribe groups teach that they aren’t learning during a typical school year: well being.

Well being is the top-most priority for teens and young adults, but unfortunately, they aren’t learning about it. Martin Seligman, author of Flourish says, “Teaching well-being is the antidote to the runaway incident of depression, a way to increase life satisfaction and an aid to better learning and more creative thinking.”

With depression in young people increasing at an alarmingly high rate, it is ten times more common than 50 years ago. Fifty years ago the first onset of depression was around 30 years old and now it is below 15 years.

We need to support our teens. And the summer is a great time to do just that.

In Truth Tribe groups, your teen will learn how to navigate the discomfort and uncertainty that life will inevitably throw at them. They will also learn a plethora of tools to help them learn about themselves, their strengths, and their weaknesses, readying them for either another year of high school or entering a new phase of life like college.
